Scraping the Sky

Opening today at MoMA QNS: Tall Buildings, a showcase of 25 high-rise buildings designed in the last 10 years. The exhibit takes a look at the evolution of the architectural genre for the 21st century, exploring innovations in structure and program as well as social and urban implications.

Santiago Calatrava, Norman Foster, Steven Holl, Rem Koolhaas, Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers are some of the architects represented in this exhibit. Many of the buildings featured are not constructed as of yet, including several proposals for the World Trade Center site. Presented are large-scale models, ranging in height from two to 10 feet, as well as drawings and photographs.

Gothamist is a fan of tall buildings, that's one reason we live in New York. However, we're an even bigger fan of complex (and expensive) miniature models of buildings, so we're definitely planning to make the short trip to see this show, which runs through September 27.
