Yes, We Have No Regular Bananas

Chiquita, who has been bringing you plain, ordinary bananas for your entire adult life, will soon be adding new banana varieties to their product line. New banana varieties?! Contrary to earlier rumors, there are no flavored bananas in the works. Reuters quotes Chiquita spokesman Michael Mitchell:

We're looking at ways to bring some excitement to the category. It's a way for us to look at the produce aisle a little differently

Gothamist admits that we do enjoy the mini (albeit non-Chiquita) bananas that are scattered around the city because of their delectable sweetness, and we love fried plantains, but we are incredibly grateful that there are no banana flavorings going on.

Hmmm. Is it just me or is anyone else still a little suspicious of this? It always makes me wonder what is being done "behind the scenes" to create these so-called varieties. I guess we'll know when I grow a new thumb out of my shoulder.
