Coolfer's Music Picks
For New Yorkers, this week's concert calendar should be focused on Saturday's Siren Music Festival down at Coney Island. (Hopefully the weather will hang in there. As of today the forecast is for isolated thunderstorms, which I suppose is better than intense heat and humidity.) This year's line-up is a dream come true for the fan of indie rock. Death Cab For Cutie, Blonde Redhead, TV on the Radio, the Fiery Furnaces, Har Mar Superstar, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Electric Six, Mission of Burma and lots more. Get there early--the Fiery Furnaces hit the stage at 2pm.
Tonight, blogger favorites Sea Ray open for the Album Leaf at the Knitting Factory. Everybody I know who has ever seen Sea Ray has walked away a believer. Maybe you'll be a believer, too.
The Delays (pictured) are currently one damn buzzed-about Brit pop band. They're playing the Mercury Lounge tomorrow night, opening for Singapore Sling. There's a good chance you'll be able to say, "Yeah, but I saw them at the Mercury Lounge" after they've moved on to bigger venues and greater album sales.
Thurday is also the night of Sound the Alarm show Volume in Brooklyn. For a mere $2 you get the Unicorns (who are great great great), Erase Errata, Moving Units, Weird War, Les Georges Leningrad and Blood on the Wall. There will be free Red Stripe while it lasts...but don't bet on it lasting very long.
One of Coolfer's favorite electronic labels, Ghostly International, brings its Art and Artifice 2004AD Tour to the Knitting Factory on Friday night. The label's three finest artists are performing: Matthew Dear, Dabrye and Dykehouse (who isn't electronic, by the way). $12 at 11pm.
Also Friday, Yo La Tengo will play two shows at the Anthology Film Archives. An email from the band says they'll be "accompanying the light show of Gary Panter and Joshua White." They'll be behind the screen, they say, "improvising away." Shows are at 7:00pm and 9:00pm.

Gothamites, y'all NEED to see this Gary Panter lightshow at the Anthology. Panter is one of this world's greatest living artists, and Yo La Tengo is just an additional perk. http://www.garypanter.com for more.
Bow Wow Wow! My god, they're still alive!?
