If you don't have any friends with rooftop views of the East River, and don't appreciate the prospect of fighting sweaty agitated crowds for 4 hours before dusk sets in, but DO have an extra $18 burning a hole in your pocket, you can see the fireworks from Roosevelt Island. They will give you a folding chair and also have food stands serving the traditional summer grill fare [and there are porta-potties, yay!]. I haven't done this for a few years, but the view is actually pretty good.</p>
