Mets Lose In Extra Innings

Every time the Mets get to one game over .500, the Mets fail to get to two games above .500. Last night was no different. The Mets are 0-5 this season when they have a chance to go 2 games above .500. Last night's chance was blown in the 12th inning when Sean Casey hit a two-run home run off of John Franco that resulted in a 6-4 loss (box score).

As Casey came to bat, Mets Manager Art Howe went to the pitchers mound to talk with Franco. Casey is on fire, hitting .361 after last night's game, and hit a home run earlier in the game off of Jae Seo. The alternative to pitching to Casey was pitching to Ken Griffey Jr. Neither was a good option and prior to last night, Franco has pitched well against Casey and had retired the last 26 lefties he faced. Unfortunately for him and the Mets, Casey got the best of Franco's fastball.

The rubber game between the Reds and Mets is this afternoon at 1:10. Mets ace Tom Glavine will face Corey Lidle. Tomorrow, the Mets and Yankees face off in the first of three games at Yankee Stadium in the annual home-at-home interleague series.
