Shockey Gets Screwed

Jeremy Shockey, tight end for the Giants, underwent surgery on his right foot yesterday. The injury to his fifth metatarsal, aggrivated in minicamp, was fixed by inserting a screw that will provide support to the bone.

Shockey had a fracture in the same foot during the 2003 season, but did not have surgery on it. Since 2002, he has had several foot and toe injuries that have limited his playing time.

It is expected that Shockey will only miss a few weeks of minicamp, but the Giants did not provide a timetable for his return. For their sake, Gothamist hopes he returns soon. Minicamp starts July 29th and runs through August 27th. The Giants start the season September 12th against the rival Philadelphia Eagles and are 0-8 when Shockey is out with injuries.
