Sunday night at Chavez Ravine, Kobe Bryant was sporting a Dodger hat and a Yankee shirt, Billy Crystal caught a foul ball and needed to ice his hand down and "Mr. L.A.", Jack Nicholson, was in attendance to watch the Yankees and Dogers in a three game weekend set.

The Yanks ended up dropping two of three in their weekend series with the Dodgers. Javier Vasquez lost the series opener 6-3 (box score) to former Yankee Jeff Weaver. After Weaver gave up three runs in the first inning, he settled down and held the Yankees scoreless for the next five innings. Eric Gagne came in to nail down the victory in the 9th.

Saturday the Yankees exacted some revenge and help Brad Halsey get his first major league victory, 6-2 (box score). Halsey went five and two-thirds, giving up 2 earned runs and striking out three. He also swung the bat for the first time since high school and managed to get a base hit off of Hideo Nomo.

Sunday's prime time affair brought all the stars out and turned out to be a great game. LA jumped out to a 4-0 lead off of the enigmatic Jose Contreras. The Yankees fought back and got the game to 4-3 going into the bottom of the 8th when Hideki Matsui misplayed a single by Dave Roberts, who managed to circle the bases and add a crucial insurance run. Jason Giambi faced Eric Gagne in the 9th and launched a homerun to make it a 5-4 game. Hideki Matsui, who already homered and tripled in the game, came up with a man on second and took a questionable called third strike. It was Gagne's 81st consecutive game without blowing a save.

This week the Yankees head down to Baltimore where they put up 41 runs in the last three game series followed by the Subway Series with the New York Mets, which begins Friday at Yankee Stadium.
