The Best of Beer For Food

2004_06_garrettoliver.jpg

Gothamist absolutely loved Mark Bittman's visit with Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster Garrett Oliver in the NY Times Dining section today. Oliver teaches Bittman how to pair beers with food, and Oliver says things like "Beer is an affordable luxury; many of the best beers in the world cost less than a latte at Starbucks" that make Gothamist want Oliver to be our friend. Especially when he's making fettuccini with lobster, chorizo and peas (it's like fettucini a la paella!) and pairing it with Duvel. The Times article is a nice look at Oliver's philopsophy about beer brewing and food, as well as what the Brooklyn Brewery does (the interactive feature that Oliver narrates about what beer brewing really is is awesome). Oliver has written about pairing food and beer, The Brewmaster's Table, which is now on our Amazon wishlist.

Garrett Oliver's personal site, as well as his bio on the Brooklyn Brewery site. And Tien went to Brooklyn Brewery's Happy Hour last Friday.

I'll have to look out for that, james, thanks. And I'd also like to go to Belgium to hear some Flemish.

Great article - made my subway ride home. Good info too. If any of you love beer, you gotta get yourselves to Belgium. Duvel is not the only beer to rate its own special glass, and each one is tastier than the last.

he's also speaking at some beer/food tasting next week. I think it's going to be (or is) listed in Time Out this week.
