Yesterday, Marv Albert and Cablevision parted ways, ending his affiliation with the New York Knicks and Madison Square Garden, both owned by Cablevision. In the process of negotiating a new contract, the two sides seemed to disagree over the value of Albert's contract and over his criticism of the Knicks. The Post reported that management was fed up with Albert's criticism and Albert was fed up with the complaints, while The Times reports that Albert "was told to be less critical of a somewhat improved Knicks team with a new coach, Lenny Wilkens."
Sure, Albert was biting the hand that fed him, but who is James Dolan kidding? Has he seen the Knicks of late? They deserve criticism. Leafing through the paper this morning, Gothamist was shocked, stunned, shaking our heads. But what do we know? All we know is that Knick broadcasts will not be the same.
Marv Albert started with the Knicks in the 60's and called their 1970 championship, a first for the franchise. In addition to the Knicks, Albert was the radio voice of the Rangers for 32 years (including their 1994 Championship season), works Monday Night Football for Westwood One, and works for TNT.
First Warner Wolf was fired from CBS, now Marv Albert will no longer be working with the Knicks, what's next? Hell freezing over? The thought of watching a Knicks game on MSG without having Marv's trademark "Yes!" makes Gothamist not want to watch MSG ever again. Reports say that Mike Breen, who covers Knick games on the radio, will be Albert's replacement. While we're sure that Breen will be superb, nothing can replace Marv Albert.

Jeez... Cablevision/Dolan/MSG just pisses me off soooooooooo much. Must... control... urge... to vomit.
How I wish the Dolans could've bought the Red Sox. Watching them spread their seeds of destruction in RSN would ease the pain of watching them drag the Knicks into the ground.
I'll be more pissed if Marv muscles out Ian Eagle for the Nets job. Albert already has two full time gigs - TNT's NBA broadcasts and the play-by-play voice for CBS Radio's MNF coverage. He needs that other $2M from YES like he needs a bite in the ass....sorry, freudian slip.

let me apologize to the fans for my homeboy clevelanders the dolan family and george steinbrenner. they sure are a handful of controversy in the ny sportsworld. must be the lake erie water that made them all so surly.
I don't mind georgie so much since winning seems to be a priority with him, and well, the yankees rarely disappoint when it comes to putting on a show. Don't the Dolans own the Indians too? I'd be interested in any Cleveland insight into the Dolan mentality.
