Concerts in the Park

When is the Philharmonic holding their annual park concerts? Shouldn't that be happening soon?

Shauna, Long Island City

One of the great things about "summering" in the city are the many free cultural events scheduled throughout New York. So mark your calendars for July 13 - 19. That's when the New York Philharmonic will present Concerts in the Park for what the website tells us is the 40th summer.

The concerts kick off on July 13 in Prospect Park and then move to Central Park's Great Lawn the next night. The Philharmonic travels to Queens, the Bronx, Long Island, and Staten Island before returning to Central Park one more time. Bring a blanket, a picnic and even some wine (NYPD open container enforcement is suspciously lax during these events) and enjoy a night that ends with a luminous fireworks display. Concerts begin at 8:00 PM, but we suggest getting their early to snag some good lawn.
