100 Years of Times Square

The NY Times gave Times Square the 100th Birthday treatment this weekend. Some articles Gothamist found interesting:
- A look at 10 movies that feature Times Square (from the Sweet Smell of Success to 13 Going on 30)
- Times reporter David Dunlap on Times Square businesses
- An evolution of Times Square
- Perspectives from people who work around or love Times Square, like a pyschic on 41st Street, a theater junkie, and a resident

Times Square officially turned 100 in April. More information about Times Square at 100 from the Times Square Bid Association. And, tonight is Taste of Times Square, starting at 5PM, with many restaurants participating, like Joe Allen's, Carmine's and Ruby Foo's. Admission is free, but tastings start at $1+.

The NY Times' contributing writer for the magazine, James Traub, wrote Devil's Playground: A Century of Pleasure and Profit in Times Square. Read an excerpt and check out the interactive slideshow. And earlier, the NY Times gave the 100 treatment to the subway.

The times articles on the subway's "100 treatment" look interesting but the site charges to read them. Anyone know of a way to get em for free?

Sorry, ben, some of the articles are for-charge only. I'll keep investigating and try to find free links.
