Running Rudy?

Former governor Mario Cuomo says that Rudy Giuliani will be played like a violin at the Republican National Convention this summer. As in, why not pimp the most beloved Republican in NYC during the convention? The Post reports Cuomo as saying, "They'll probably play Rudy heavier than any other part of the convention...So Rudy will go up and people will start talking about him replacing [Vice President Dick] Cheney or him running for president...It'll be very, very good for Rudy." It was announced that Giuliani, Mayor Bloomberg, and Governor Pataki will be playing major roles during the convention. Well, of course: Mayor B keeps saying how great the revenue from the convention will be, Pataki is definitely eyeing a national political seat somewhere, and Giuliani likes to hear himself talk (yes, Gothamist knows and agrees he was a great leader during September 11, but let's face it - he's pushy, pissy, full of bravado and obstinate - a true New Yorker).

I seem to recall a NY that was falling to pieces under dapper but inept Dinkins. Koch put the city back into fiscal shape, Dinkins almost threw that fiscal stability away and Rudy brought it back, and more importantly changed city government. Before Rudy the mantra was "we can't do it here because this is NY". Afterwards it became "we CAN do it here"

I've always been amazed by people who actually though Dinkins was a good mayor.

The only mob Fahk Face Giuliani is connected with is the White Trash loser mob (i.e. those White losers in NYC who for some reason, feel the need to still be living in NYC).

However, someone does seem to be killing off the ones shooting and killing off a lot of them.

Last I heard, Blacks, Hispanics and Asians together represented the majority in NYC. This is pretty much like every other major urban city in America.

What's say we start a campaign to make Brookyln and independent city? We can move all the theater related BS and other loser crap there and call it White Trash, NY. I'm sure Fahk Face Giuliani could easily Rizzo his way into mayor of a city like that.

I had heard (pre September 11) that Giuliani couldn't really run for higher office because he did have various mob contacts. Don't know if that was angry liberal gossip.

  • i wonder, is rudy giuliani as divisive a figure in new york as bill clinton was for the rest of the country?

  • I think Giuliani's White Trash Stench is seeping back into people's noses despite the AIR of respectability he managed to highjack as a result of 911.

If Bush et al didn't hate Giuliani, Giuliani would already have a federal post. And if Cuomo knew anything about politics he would still be governor.

I read once that Cuomo NEVER has the majority vote as Governor of New York; that Cuomo was only able to get elected governor (and relected governor) because there was always a third party candidate to split up the vote. When there was no third party candidate to split the vote, Cuomo lost the election.

The New York Post has been pimping Giuliani for the UN, which seems to mean that ****K Face must not be making all that much money right now.

  • A pro-choice GOP VP? Forget it -- he's no likelier than Kerry/McCain.

Vice President Giuliani? God help us...

Vice President Giuliani... well, if nothing else, it'll be an occasion for Italian pride, surely. However, I have to think... not sure if I want to trade Halliburton contracts for CIA enforcement against jaywalking.

We could just about take him as our mayor.

He did do a good job for the most part leading us out of 9/11.

Uggh, ummm.... if he for some reason is announced as the new VP candidate for this upcoming presidential election ... at the convention .... uggh, ummmm ... I can't bear to think how his violin strings might break from all that played-up, trumped up political moves on this city trying recover from 9/11 and not wanting the memory of it used in vain for political races.
