Yanks Embarrass Orioles in Sweep

The Yankees pummeled Baltimore 18-5 (box score) in last night's game and helped set an Oriole club record for runs allowed in a three game home series with 41. The Yankees have not scored this much in a 3-game series since 1951 when they scored 42 against the St. Louis Browns. Clearly, there should have been some sort of mercy rule instituted during this game since every Yankee starter scored at least one run and had at least one hit during the game. Baltimore, one of baseball's hottest teams for a period in April, has now lost seven in a row and are hopelessly behind the Red Sox and Yankees in the AL East.

It also seems like Captain Derek Jeter is back, going 3-4 last night and 7-15 for the series and boosting his average above the dreaded Mendoza Line from .190 to .211. Gothamist is going to treat this as a sign of Jeter's return to normal and a case reacting to media over-reaction on Monday.

While we were scanning the local papers, Gothamist came across Tyler Kepner's article for The Times. His lead for the article on last night's game is classic, "Imagine George Steinbrenner at the controls of an Xbox baseball game, running up the score on a hapless computer opponent. Eight runs! Fourteen! Eighteen! Enrique Wilson? Homer and four runs batted in! Tony Clark? Two doubles, four R.B.I.! Bubba Crosby? Double to the corner, another run!" Classic, we say, classic!

yeah, sorry eebmore. i realized there was scant coverage on the yankees this week.

you would think that your team would do better with such a large payroll though.

Why cant Yankees and Mets fans just get along?
