American Idol: Yes, We Had To Watch

Fantasia Barrino, you had Gothamist at Summertime. We admit that we've only been watching American Idol here and there, but it always seems that we end up seeing the final. And we're glad you won. And Diana DeGarmo, we take back our bad feelings about you (now that you haven't won) - you looked like you were having fun last night and you were very gracious. And you're just 16 - if this is your biggest failure in life, you're doing good.

The Times' Virginia Heffernan called it "a supremely satisfying night." Gothamist has to agree: Seeing Simon Cowell laugh at John Stevens' awkward body and singing during the medley (that just went on and on) was worth it.

Can this show end already? Does anyone care? And given the facet tha Rueben Stoddard won last year and Clay Aiken is the one everyone talks about, this contest is a joke.

Someone rerun Columbo and Barnaby Jones. Those shows are more interesting.

  • she's okay...

I haven't watched this season either. And I also tuned in last night for the first time. So I was sorta shocked, after hearing so much about Fantasia Burrito, that her voice was rather high and squeaky. Didn't suit me at all. But then, I'm no Paula-Randy-Simon. (Mind you, I'm not saying I preferred the 16 year old either.) For me, Ruben Studdard's voice is one it's easy to get behind. The Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken's of the world are deserved by the creepy Olsen tweens who voted for 'em.
