U.S. World Cup Hockey Roster Announces

USA Hockey announced the roster for the 2004 World Cup of Hockey yesterday. By the time the tournament starts, it will have been eight years since the U.S. last won the tournament. The tournament starts August 30th and ends on September 14th in Toronto. Competing countries include the United States, Canada, Russia, Sweeden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany.

Locally, Rick DiPietro and Jason Blake of the Islanders and Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Rafalski of the Devils made the team. Surprise, surprise, no Rangers made it. Must be because the team is built to win.

And as much as Gothamist loves Frank Gehry's design work, we had to laugh when we saw him holding the trophy he designed.
