Pistons Win; Whatevs Wins Bet - Bovs!

Last night, the Nets lost the 7th and deciding game to the Pistons in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Why did we all know this would happen? Maybe because the Nets were blown out in their first two games and had to return to the scene of the crime? Or was it the fact that Jason Kidd was held scoreless in the playoffs for the first time in his career because of his back and knee ailments? Or was it just that the Pistons were the better team? Whatever it was, the Nets lost the game 90-69 (box score) and will not return to the NBA Finals this year. Chauncey Billups scored a game-high 22 points, with his teammates Richard Hamilton and Ben Wallace adding 21 and 18 points respectively. The Pistons now move on to play the Indiana Pacers to see who goes to the NBA Finals.

The Nets loss also means that Gothamist lost our bet with Whatevs in the Gothamist/Whatevs Smackdown. We here at Gothamist thought the series was well over after the first two games, but at least the Nets gave the 'Stons a run for their money. Uncle Grambo, what size T was that?

Season over, so I guess I can drop this now as to why I was able to make those celeb sighting posts...One of my three jobs is to work on the courtside at Nets home games. I am not security, yet I am not a Nets or an arena employee. My job had me there three hours before (and some time after) every home game this season.

Coincidentally, I also work (a full-time job) for a company that has a major 'Association' with the Nets. My third job (used to be my only job) is in newspaper journalism. As of today, I have only two jobs.

Just to clarify, I am not working as a journalist while at Nets games. But it is media!

Thanks, Moe, we've been taking bets about that!

Sigh, I wish Jason Kidd were healthy, but that's what happens when one player carries a team. God, if only the Nets managements get it together in the off season. No more crazy expensive deals for players who are sick. More offense. Less Kittles.

last night's game was, dare i say, PHENOMENAL! larry brown made some killer defensive adjustments after halftime that shut down the Nets offense. however, i'm right in line with your thinking that this would've been a different series had J. Kidd been healthy. but, in the same right, it would've ALSO been a different series had Rasheed Wallace been healthy.

go Pistons, bring on those punk ass Pacers! we eat hicks from Indiana for BREAKFAST around these parts.

basketball sucks, LET'S GO YANKEES!!!

Puh-leez, Grambo. The only thing you suburban Detroiters (does anyone live in the city anymore?) will be eating for breakfast has "SPALDING" on it and will be delivered to your mouth courtesy of Jermaine O'Neal. Anyway, you can't have hicks for breakfast if they're running you over with a combine.

I have no idea what that means.

Pacers in six.

Is it wrong for me to live in Brooklyn but be rooting for my hometown Pistons? I say no even with the new arena going up. It's so nice to see there are others [hi grambo! enjoy the salt water taffy for all of us!]

Even if J Kidd is healthy, the Pistons or Pacers should have beaten them. Plus the Nets aren't good enough anyway to win the Finals against any top 4 Western Conference teams (sparing us another brutal matchup like last year's Spurs-Nets debacle) More importantly though, the Nets need to figure out if the Pistons/Pacers have passed them permanently and they need to blow up the team. K Martin is overrated and they don't have any offensive low post presence. Plus, everyone's holding the bag until LeBron gets a little more help.

awwww yeah... well, the Nets can pull their pants back up, cuz the ass-whoopin' is over, thanks to my beloved Pistons. However, I feel terrible for Tien not to get the free Vernors... no Boston Coolers for you:

The Boston Cooler
2 scoops Vanilla ice cream in a tall glass... fill remainder of glass with Vernors. Eat with a spoon!

I think we take the Pacers in 6, and no matter what anyone from Indiana says, your state is the Mississippi of the midwest. Thanks for Dan Quayle!

Brooklyn Pistons fans... you are the best!

What about the Brooklyn Nets?
