Big Babies

Big babies on Washington Square Park; Photo: Hear See NYC

Are diapers actually the new black, and no one told...anyone (thankfully)? Hear See NYC took this photograph of grown men walking around Washington Square Park, in construction hats and diapers on the weekend. Hear See NYC wondered if this was a ritual, since it had been a while since he'd been it the park for more than a few minutes. Gothamist can only guess that it might have something to with either NYU graduation fashion or what happens when dime bags go bad. Have you seen these men? Are you one of these dudes? Do you know anything about it? Let us know!

Note: Hear See NYC's site is having some server issues at the moment. Hopefully, they'll be fixed soon.

yah! they're the giant babies from "the broken hipsters!" it's a philly rock opera that's playing in nyc for one weekend only (june 18-19) and this photo is from a promo/publicity stunt a few weeks back. come see the show! (altho if this photo alone offends you, maybe you should reconsider...)

Yeah, I am in that shot. I am the diaper wearer in the middle (with the huge beard). Check out our website: www.brokenhipsters.com

I was one of those babies (I'm not in that shot, though). We're in a rock opera called Broken Hipsters. It's playing at Producer's Club II at 616 Ninth Ave. on June 18 & 19. More info available at www.brokenhipsters.com

Saw them on 9th Ave btwn 43th and 44th. They said they where with an off-broadway show. They pointed to a door next/near to the West Way Diner. I didn't ask further.

  • Saw them last Saturday afternoon at the Ninth Avenue Food Festival. Seemed harmless enough, but I'm glad I wasn't eating anything at the time.

My brother's friend worked for one of those "Penthouse Letters" magazines in the 80s - it was run by Bob Guccione Jr. (Spin Magazine) whose father ran Penthouse. Little Bob and his friends would write the 'letters' and pretty soon all of these 18 year olds were selling stuff in the ads section. My brother's friend started selling adult baby fetish stuff. He would go to baby supply conventions and get these giant pacifiers and chew toys... and he had my immigrant Mom - a seamstress laid off from the garment district - make the giant diapers. She used really expensive flannel, though.

My sister, who is a doctor, told me that it was pretty common to find people in emergency rooms who secretly wore diapers under their 'normal' clothing. Who would have imagined getting hit by a car on Diaper Day? Their significant others would change them and baby them and ... well , you get the idea. They could become so attached to the use of diapers that they couldn't "go" without diapers, and would have to call their mate to come over to work and change them and such...

I saw them a few days ago. They're promoting some play or musical. They didn't give me a flier, though, so I can't tell you which.

    Deconstruction workers?

i thought they were red sox fans

  • incontinence should never stop the healthy new yorker from a leisurely promenade through Central Park in the spring

Maybe they were headed to a "treesome."

  • Wasn't there an AIDS run this weekend? Maybe they dressed up for that.

  • I saw them outside the Central Park Zoo on Sunday; I thought it was really inappropriate being around all the kids like that. Thought they might have been some kind of pedophile freaks, but everyone was taking photos with them.
