Midnight Eats

A self-admitted insomniac, I need suggestions on places to get a prepared meal in the city when I'm up and hungry at 3am. I live in midtown East but will gladly travel around, as subway rides always help kill some (night)time.

Fortunately, you're not alone, and you'll probably find many a New Yorker wide-eyed at 3am to join you for some casual dining. Check out New York mag's suggestions for post-midnight chowing. Consult Zagat's dining survey of New York; that little picture of a half-moon above the restaurant ratings means it's open for dinner, and you can call to find out exactly how late. Diners are usually a good way to go, and if you jump on the M15 downtown, Veselka (Ukranian diner on 9th & 2nd) and Yaffa Cafe (Mediterranean-themed cafe on 8th bet. 1st & A) offer some views of the East Village nightlife in action.

A word of caution though: "they" say that eating right before bedtime can impede the falling asleep process. Just make sure this habit isn't feeding (so to speak) your insomnia.
