Strange Queens Murder

2004_05_sappleton.jpg

The city medical examiner has said that the body found in a Queens dumpster was that of Stacy-Ann Sappleton, a Canadian woman in town to visit with her fiance's family in Queens and plan her wedding. Sources say that Sappleton, who had been missing since Friday and was found on Monday, her body beaten and shot, probably knew her attacker. The strange details around the case were examined in the Times yesterday, with a map that detailed her known whereabouts, like the fact that she made a call a block away from her fiance's house, but never made it there. The Queens community of Brookville, where fiance Damion Blair's family lived, is considered to be safe and "placid." Blair's family tells the Times today that had the police started looking for Sappleton when they first reported her missing, instead of waiting 24 hours as in standard in missing persons' cases, they would have "found her alive."
