After two games in Detroit, the situation for the Nets looked grim. They had been blown out by 37 points in 2 games and nearly set a mark for futility in game 1. Some people thought the series was over, but with a victory Sunday and a 94-79 victory last night (box score), the series is even at two games a piece. The game marked the return of Jason Kidd, who had a triple double with 22 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. Prior to game 4, Kidd only scored 22 points all series. Kenyon Martin, who had 16 points and 15 rebounds, provided the heart for the Nets, winning over the crowd at the Meadowlands. Richard Jefferson and Kerry Kittles added 19 and 14 points respectively, and shut down their defensive assignments. For the Pistons, Richard Hamilton scored 30 points and Rasheed Wallace, limited to 26 minutes because of foot pain, had only 6 points.
Gothamist wonders what's going through the minds of Pistons players right now. They thought they had the Nets all figured out, but you can never count out a champion. The two teams meet again Friday at The Palace for game 5. We're liking the Gothamist/Whatevs Smackdown a little more now that the series is even.

Hi. Last night's game was probably the biggest celeb spotting this season in East Rutherford.
Jay-Z entered early, and was joined by Beyonce moments after tip-off (who made her first ever appearance as Queen of the Nets Universe, with apologies to Joumana Kidd)
Two nights after meeting Snoop Dogg, I managed to meet Jay Z. This would probably mean more if I actually listened to their work, but Snoop hosted SNL, and Jay-Z is the future co-owner of the Nets.
Anyway, a kid in the front row had a "Brooklyn Nets" jersey, and even despite my Jersey roots, I was quite impressed, because it was clear the jersey was legit from the original press conference Ratner had. (The kid's best friend's mom works for Ratner.)
Anyhow, at halftime, I showed it to Jay-Z in the hallway after introducing myself, and rather than asking him to sign it. I ran it back to the kid and gave the kid my marker (yes, I did happen to have a marker, but no camera). So Jay-Z signed 6-10 autographs with my marker before rejoining Beyonce.
Another Destiny Child singer, Kelly Rowland, was there too (she's absolutely beautiful up close - Beyonce I didn't get too close to. Only one person in the crowd seem to recognize the guy she was with - Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Houston Rockets' Cuttino Mobley was there very early, but not with his "close friend" actress Kim Cattrall, who sources tell me is definitely involved with him. (The word "shtupping" was used.) She's only been seen at two NBA games this year - both Rockets games. and she said she's there to see Cuttino.
Fat Joe was there too.
damn moe, that is quite a celeb spotting summary you have there (i think it's longer than the actual post). pretty cool that you spotted all those people.
just wondering, as a jersey native, nets fan, and season ticket holder (?), how do you feel about the team moving to brooklyn?
We got ourselves a Best-Of-Three series now, y'all! The Nets looks unstoppable, my heart is palpitating faster than John Daly's after spotting a truck full of beef jerky!
I'm at every game on the courtside, but technically, I am not a season ticket holder.
Even as a lifelong Jersey guy, my opinion on this is that Brooklyn needs the Nets (or any pro team) and NJ can not support pro sports teams for two primary reasons:
1. Living in the media shadow of NYC teams. Common sense, of course, but Brooklyn would be different. People there have a strong identity, and although the Knicks would never be eclipsed, the (eventual) love for the team would be pretty special in modern-day sports, given the unique geographic situation. And the media enables the die-hard Knicks fan who moves from Bronx to South Jersey to follow the team just as closely, so the whole growing-up-with-a-team thing is meaningful.
2. Getting to the Meadowlands -
The fatal flaw of what could have been the greatest sporting complex in the world is the lack of a direct rail link - that screwed everything forever.
Who wants to go from one traffic jam getting home from work straight to another one at the game?
It's not a bad arena, and its in a good location auto-commute-wise. But that location is surrounded by nothing that you can do without getting in a car.
Football works there, right?
Well, the key to this is that football is a different animal - a once a week event animal.
Not like basketball and hockey, which often go down on winter weeknights.
An ice hockey-only arena in Newark, that's just begging for failure - hockey is for rich people these days! Not many of them in Newark.
The state dropped the ball when they backed out of the Nets and Devils Newark arena. That's sad, but if Brooklyn embraces the team, it could be special in a hurry.
I almost forgot to answer the question. I feel its sad for NJ that someone let it come to this, but I will probably be a huge supporter of the Brooklyn Nets, especially since I am moving from Jersey to Brooklyn this month.
Cuttino Mobley and Kim Cattrall? Isn't she old enough to be his mother? Who does he think he is, Aston Kutcher?
The only other question I have is, do the Nets still employ that wacky PA announcer who roams the crowd, and if so, is he coming to Brooklyn with them?
No, the Nets PA guy just sits there. But they have personalities like Cubby Bryant from z100 roam the crowd and MC games. and the beautiful girls on the dance team.

The Cuttino Mobley-Kim Cattrall scoop is hot. I mean, there was that Sex and the City episode where Samantha dates a black man, but he wasn't a basketball player. Her old man ex-husband she wrote the book about female orgasms with must be upset - not only is she shtupping a much younger guy, she's shtupping a much younger hot basketball player!
Is this enough circumstantial proof for you??

how's about these then?

Christ, she looks about 107 years old.
And what/who is she sitting on in pic 2854308?
moe, i've got to say that you have done quite the bit of research on the whole cattrall/mobley lovefest. i had seen the picture of the nets/rockets game, but not all the other stuff. so how do you get all the access to the people at the nets games - besides sitting close? and thanks for your thoughts on the move. while there have been quite a few comments on the stadium going up in brooklyn, there aren't that many people that comment about how they feel as nets fans.
I have a certain cart blanche there, but it has nothing to do with money. Remember, I don't have season tickets. I might be able to tell you once the season ends.
moe, in that case, we eagerly await the end of the season, whether it be next week or in june.
in the meantime, we expect more courtside updates.
