As I type this, that weird haze image is showing up. Sadly, it's only a harbinger of the moistness to come.
Temperatures are getting up to 86--86!--with 100% humidity and a chance of more wild thunderstorms today and tonight. Basically, we're gonna be swimming in it. Just close your eyes and imagine you're in, er, New Orleans, except you have to walk everywhere and you can't take your daiquiri with you. Fun, right?!
Those brutally awakened by the extreme rain, thunder, lightning, and (was I imagining this, or did it really happen?) hail this morning at 12:30AM, feel free to air your grievances in the comments.

aaah, glad that wasn't just me dreaming, although it's kinda amazing after that storm last night to wake up and see no trace of it by 9am. By the sounds of it something should have been destroyed.
actually, I woke up at 2 am for an unrelated event to find that the newly installed a/c unit (just put it in that night) was not properly sealed all the way and had to clean up a very wet floor and carpet.
we went up on our rooftop in Bushwick. what an amazing thing to watch. high-up sheet lightning over queens. massive bolts around times square and others down at 14th street. and an amazing forked ground-to-air bolt from somewhere in the 20s.
my cat, who knows how to climb ladders, followed us up and got his first taste of open air since autumn. when the rain hit i carried him back down.
Lightning kept spookily illuminating my bedroom and the rain pummelled the windows of my long, narrow, railroad apartment from both ends, preventing me from sleeping. I still get a frightened thrill from hearing storms like that, and when I'm stuck outside in one, it's more like a palpable terror.
It is so comforting to be tucked under a duvet listening to the sounds of a summer storm. Reminds me of so many childhood nights.
I'll be swimming through New Oleans with my daiquiri tonight. Heading down to see Dave Chappelle in concert! I'll let you know how it goes...
It totally did happen, although I only caught the light show at 11PMish (I was passed out after that, scared from the lightning maybe).
New Orleans + Dave Chappelle = Ideal Formula For Making Me Insanely Jealous. I want to hear all about it, dude.
More rain tonight? I saw the lightning start to pick up over Jersey walking home from the subway. We'll see.
