The Friends Finale

2004_05_friendsfin.jpg

So, Ross woke up and found himself next to Suzanne Pleshette. Joey found the one-armed man in the basement of Central Perk. The Korean War ended. And the rest of the Friends got sucked into the Hellmouth, after realizing that their little NYC was actually all set in a snowglobe.

No, not really. The AP promptly covers the finale's details. The best quote comes from Ellen DeGeneres: "I'm gonna miss the friends, I mean, because we used to watch them once a week. And now, we're only gonna get to see them every day at 3, 5, 7 and 9 -- right after 'Golden Girls,' 'Seinfeld' and 'Law & Order.'"

The Times' Michael Brick tries to find New Yorkers who might fit the Friends mold; he doesn't find a paleontologist but does meet a herpetologist (turtles, people, turtles). And the Daily News' David Bianculli sums up Gothamist's feelings by saying the finale was fine, for a perfectly warmhearted sitcom, but it was "neither exceptional nor overly emotional."

heh heh heh... Suzanne Pleshette.

my whole thought the entire show (and maybe I missed this explanation) was...WHERE IS EMMA?

Emma was with Rachel's mom; apparently, Mrs. Green was going to bring Emma over to Paris a couple days later. Monica said, "Eight hour flight with a baby - your poor mom." Rachel said, "Are you kidding me? LIstening to my mom talk about Atkins for eight hours - poor Emma!" I thought that was one of the more clever jokes of the show.

YES! The ordeal is over. No more cheesey plot twists and corny ass lines.
Hopefully NBC will syndicate the show to a little known cable network and it will be forgotten forever. We can only hope.

Jen,

the first paragraph was brilliant. Bianculli and Gothamist are right. One must remember that the show was just a lighthearted comedy, nothing more nothing less. If it was overly emotional it would have been a total pukefest (take the last episode of M.A.S.H. for instance, or it's last 3 seasons ...ick).

the finale was so boring...it wasn't even funny. actually, I thought the Leno post-Friends show was much more entertaining.

Check out this radio piece ripping the Rembrandts 10-year-old theme song. Hillarious.

For once can a sitcom not have a finale where they tie up the loose ends? Why couldn't Rachel get on the plane thinking to herself what she should do and end it right there? Leave everyone hanging instead of the very predictable ending.

The last 3 years have been lame anyway...oh well, back to HBO for the good stuff.

ESPN's "the Sports Guy" has a decent column on Friends vs. the OC:
