I lived in Michigan for 36 years and just moved to Georgia. I did not realize how nasal we sound until people started pointing it out. Most people think I am from Fargo! I miss party stores and Better Made Potato chips!

there was an old bit on SNL, gosh, probably about 10 years ago that revolved around the Michigan accent. it was called "daansin' in Laansin'" (aka "dancing in lansing") or something to that effect. to this day, best representation of the Michigan accent i've ever heard. that being said, Midwestern accents are widely known to be the best in the world. however, get too far north (beginning mid-state and extending north) and accents become horribly durst horribly quick. downstate is where it's at, baby! and milk = melk is more Missouri than MI. bovs. D-TOWN! whut whut!

it's not like i haven't been to michigan to witness the accent. "mom" sound painfully like "mam" with some people. and i generally don't think i have a new york accent. except for orange, drawer, and a few other select words.

A Michigan "accent"... now that's comedy. Seriously though, most people in Michigan (unless you're in certain areas) have painfully boring speech (i.e., plain-vanilla American English "accent"). Most of those weird-talkers are from Wisconsin or Chicago. Really (yes, I am from Michigan).

Tien, NO such thing as a Michigan accent! Scores of network broadcasters are sent to Indiana or Michigan to receive training on how to properly speak. Everywhere else has an accent *grin*.

Joey: As others posting here (leafblower, cough cough) know, I am your unofficial Internet Pacers fan. So let me say, that Heat-Hornets series was the equivalent of overtime at the JV game. Yuck. Enjoy it while it lasts! Although I like Dwyane Wade, not the least of which is because he's the got the great Micheal Ray Richardson/Michael Williams name misspelling, and because he played at the high school a mile from my house.

i never got into the whole faygo thing. i think it's just the way the word had to roll out of the mouth with a michigan accent. but vernors...i loved that stuff. i even brough a few bottles back with me when i visited last fall.
