A little bird in L.A. tells us that Elvis Mitchell is going to be running the NY office of Columbia Pictures (or something like that). Can anyone confirm this? (Guess it pays to be friends with Amy Pascal...) And if so, Elvis, have fun promoting Spidey 2!
Gawker has the Times memo announcing Elvis' departure, as well as extensive reports on his Times status. Gothamist on Elvis Mitchell.

Let us hope that when he leaves Columbia he won't take a senior role at Variety and innundate us with his "Memo to" pieces a la Peter Bart, that other journalist-turned exec-turned journalist.
You guys just missed a golden opportunity to Photoshop (in cheesy NY Post style) Elvis Mitchell's dreadlocked-head onto the Columbia logo's body. And we all could have laughed, laughed, laughed.
You scooped choire!
Why all the fuss about Elvis Mitchell?
I mean really, who cares about the guy?
i really think the blog world is putting an inordinate amount of attention of this guy. with all of the other egos at the times...what gives?
Is there any chance that a certain tabloid's blind item NOT related to this?
I've seen Elvis Mitchell talk at various panels a couple times, and he's always really great - smart about film, funny and entertaining. We've been obsessed with him for a while, if you look at our past entries.
And which blind item - I've been concentrating on Friends finale hype!
It's just strange for me to see anyone obsessed with any print journalist, when I work in the field. But it is appreciated. I can only hope to have people caring about me because they enjoy my work. Definitely not happening yet, but I can aim for it.
Anyway, I can't find a link, but the gist of the blind item (possibly just an online one) was..."Which big city film critic got a little too close to his students during his recent semester as an Ivy League guest prof?"
it had more, but you get the picture. If i find the link, i'll get it to you. I feel dirty, like some sort of Drudgey character.
Moe what you should realize is:
"i really think the blog world is putting an inordinate amount of attention on this [INSERT BULLSHIT TOPIC HERE]."
That's the reality. Gossip, on top of gossip on to of navel gazing on top of self-importance. If blogs suddenly disappeared, not too many people would care at all.
