NY Bloggers Thank You

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the NY Bloggers Talk last night at the Apple Store. It was a fabulous turnout, and, speaking on behalf of the speakers and moderators, we appreciated your support and great questions. And Gothamist is planning another talk, so let us know if you have any suggestions for topics.

Jason Calacanis and Nick Denton, before their talk

Gothamist also would like to thank: Jason Calacanis, Nick Denton, and Jeff Jarvis for a spirited (though less punchy than wished for, to be honest) discussion about the future of publishing blogs; Anil Dash, Paul Ford, and Meg Hourihan for enlightening us about what goes into designing blog publishing tools (less nerdy than it sounds, for those who missed it); and Felix Salmon, Lockhart Steele, and Choire Sicha ( and Jen) for being good punchlines. Yay!

Also, thanks to the Apple Store for hosting the event and the Merc Bar for welcoming a bunch of folks to slake their thirst.

Everything NY has some notes on the evening: Publishers' panel, technology panel, editors' panel. And, people, please track back with your posts on the evening - we know you have blogs!

    Hello

    Bye

  • playa hata baita

Seeing bloggers blogging about going to a blog event makes me want to go cold turkey on ever using a computer again.

I am a dork, but this is making my dork pegging my dork meter.

The fact that Denton and Crazy guy are both in suits kind of drives that last nail in the coffin.

    buh bye internet!

  • hoofin

I totally did not make this event because it was frickin 45 miles away in the City. Additionally, I didn't get a private invitation---not even from Jarvis, who knows my blog is out there.

I didn't need, like, a private car or something---just a little TLC (or is it LTC- I can't remember) to convince me that 45 miles is worth the trek.

  • Ms. Manners

Could the title of any future "blogging" event really be changed to reflect what's really happening? Perhaps name the next event "Predominantly White Males Who Are Using Blogging Software With Aspirations Towards Multi-Media Empires". Because most of the "bloggers" at this talk were simply business-people who somehow see "blogging" as the next wave of the dot-com boom.

  • Jesus that guy in the last picture looks like a real internet nerd. He should check out my site. I got a topless pic of Chelsea. If the geek hasn't done that already.

    Jen & Jake:

This was a great panel! One of the few times in a talk where I didn't need to pinch myself to keep awake! I learned much and I'm on my way to creating my blog.....

    Gracias!

-It was good. Thx Gothamist. Great host, panelists, moderators. I learned a lot. --Jen's also cuter in person than photo on the ad.

    More seats, better PA needed.

-btw, no worries: Normal backing & filling, facilitating is a part of every conference, panel, seminar, etc.

Ex.:Compared to last night, NYNMA's last "state of the industry" panel was like an IV drip of codeine and grain alcohol (which I would otherwise recommend :P ).

don't let 'em keep you down, jen! -and keep shining that hair; they're just jealous!

    - Oh yeah: MERC BAR!!! -How about a *&$%^ #{>@-ing Group Discount!!!!

  • A minority view:

I couldn't make it because I was working late last night, but here's my reaction to the announcement.

  • Jen, pay the jealous of your hair girl no mind. You looked fabulous yesterday. :-)

  • jenlova

Jen, that chick is dumb and jealous of your hair. you're hot!

  • you ought to sit people differently next time. I'm sure those stools gave the panelists a hard time. they might have had influence on that the big showdown between Nick and Jason McCabe didn't happen!

  • Jen

Thanks for all the feedback. Constructive criticism definitely helps us make the future panels better.

I do admit to being maybe a little defensive about comments last night, but it's something I think about a lot. There are always things to learn from (like filling air with nothingness, I guess), and our team appreciates constructive criticism. And for the record, thanks, but I think my hair is shinier today than it was yesterday - I used Lush's BIG today.

  • Jen, you were excellent and Jake, great job organizing it - the whole panel was really interesting and informative, and it was cool to be in a room filled with probably 80% (90%?) bloggers. And it didn't go on too long. I learned a lot and look forward to the next one.

  • anonymous but kind

Jen, Snoogle thinks you have shiny hair! So sweet.

  • I enjoyed the blogger talk last night. I found all panels very informative met some new people. Thanks Jen and Jake for organizing and promoting this event.

  • I had a great time... thanks for hosting Jake!

  • Classy, Snoogle. Did you feel the need to personally attack Jen because of her remarks about her discomfort with nasty, gratuitous comments from people like yourself, or in spite of them?

If you don't like Jen's work, don't visit her site. There's no need to piss on the drapery and be a mean-spirited twit. An anonymous twit, at that.

  • TrackBack is suspiciously not working from my site today. My comments are here.

  • Jen, I think your instincts were right. The last panel was a nice jolt of personality after interesting but arcane talk about "monetizing" blogs and Movable Type vs. Content Management Systems. Ignore the anonymous ass.
