The Intuitionist really is a wonderful book. You inspired me to read it again this summer. Thanks Gothamist!

the young whippersnapper who writes/produces the O.C. has said over and over again that he wants the music on the O.C. not to suck, for it to be stuff that he likes and listens to -- seth on the show listens to a lot of stuff that josh schwartz likes in real life.

so it seems like it's a mix between the paying to get in the end credits/music placement and a lot of incredible incidental music.

every week i hear music i love on the show -- and it's not always the stuff that is part of the promotional placement.

I have been a Beasties fan for years, ever since Paul's Boutique blew my mind. I also happen to be a fan of the OC. At first I thought these interests could not mix. But then I watched the episode, and it was ok.

As for their politics, more power to them. Their music is their outlet, much as our blogs are ours. I've actually enjoyed their growth lyrically over the years. From rhyming about beer and chicks, to guns and cheeba, to tibet and respecting women, and now to the political climate in the world. How many different ways can you hear Fight For You Right?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this album.

Labels do not "pay" to get songs on TV shows...in fact the TV production pays a decent fee for synchronization rights for the master recording and all the TV stations pay ASCAP for the performance rights (this goes to the writer and music publisher).
I am sure there is a full-time music consultant at the OC that speaks to the labels to get new music...snagging the new Beastie song would be seen as beneficial to both sides here (Free promotion for the label and a cool association w/ the Beasties for the OC).

I can't believe that was them, and I REALLY can't believe they paid to be on the OC. Of course, I'm a fan of theirs, and I'm horribly addicted to the OC, so they found me! I liked the song. It sounded like a nicely stripped down, spare version of their old stuff and reminded of why I love them. However. . .the politics. . . yikes. They may be getting way too old.

The song didn't "make" The OC last night... they paid to have their song played on The OC. Being on The OC is not a measure of talent or ability, but rather a sign of a studio with deep pockets.

Thanks, Calvin! Sree Sreenivasen emailed us last night to say we would be on this morning! Super exciting - here's a link.

Okay, I suggest we come up with a Beastie Boys drinking game. Since I'm more acquainted with their videos, let's do a drinking game about their recent videos:
- Walking towards the camera - one drink
- Fake mustaches - one drink
- Costumes - one drink
- Wearing women's clothes in drag - two drinks
- Spoofing 70s TV shows or TV shows in general - two drinks
- Battling fake monsters - chug

is anyone else getting kind of tired of the beastie boys? It seems like they're getting a little formulaic.

Hey Gothamist, I just wanted to let you know that your blog was featured on the morning news on Channel 7 today. Some reporter said that Gothamist.com was his favorite blog on the net.
