Being from the Rumson area I hate to say that I am not surprised, but going to school with the Diaco family I am surprised to hear the one of them would do this. I think the media is a little too soprano happy. Just because you are rich with an italian last name does not make you a mobster. It would be silly to say that drugs have not affected high school/college aged teens. I have seen several people in our area with problems that do go unforseen, but I am sure that that occurs anywhere. I am just happy there is one less supplier out there to affect our area, and that she is safe... I only reminds me of what happened at the carnegie deli. That girl is dead.

Growing up, I was in the same grade as her older brother. I remember Julia a little bit. What I remember was a very cute and sweet young girl. I wasn't really close to anyone in their family, but they were always really nice people from what I saw. Being 18 and at your first year in college is life changing and can easily get out of control. It can happen to anyone, no matter where you come from or how much money you do or dont't have. I hope that Julia will get a second chance and that her and her family will get through this ok.

Its not like she's been convicted and whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty. As was said, with as many pot dealers as there are, especially at nyu, why is she any bigger of a deal? And while she might have "family" connections, none of this seems like an official "family" distrobution deal. This whole thing has the signs of Julia Diaco somehow wanting to make some spare $$$ on her own and not something that was officially "family" sanctioned. If she was dealing for her "family" on an official basis, she would have had a boutique or cafe setup for her as a front and then deal. Very onbvs to to me.

Hey, when I was a freshman they actually let the cops bug our dorm (Brittany) in order to record phone conversations between "Baby Joe" and Peter Gatien, who B. Joe was distributing E for. So I think your roommates are the last thing you have to worry about. If you're going to deal, do it off-campus for chrissake. So yes, NYU officials helped bring down Gatien and the Limelight by consenting to a wiretap. Lucklily for Baby Joe, I heard he copped a plea and didn't have to serve time.

For the record, Springsteen owns a house in Rumson, and used actually to live in it. Now he and the wife and kids spend all their time in a house in Colts Neck -- more horsey and "rural" and not across the street from a school.

some friends at NYU had a suitemate who was a gogo boy and then some. While he apparently didn't bring any of his clients back to the dorm, he would head out suddenly in the middle of the night and return a couple of hours later with a wad of dough. And he'd leave silver g-strings hanging in the common area. To top it all off, he wasn't even hot; he was a weird little elf dude, which I guess is a good niche for stripper/hustling.

Wow, that she's from Rumson struck me. Yep, Springsteen lives there. So does Bon Jovi and half of the executives of Exxon. Small, extrememly wealthy, exclusive, and the country club didn't accept people of color till the mid-80s! The kids in the high school drove their BMWs to school, did a lot of drugs, and the parents were often too busy socializing or dealing with their own drug and alcohol problems that no one seemed to mind. man do i miss the suburbs! ;-)

Andy: Because drug dealing arrests rarely warrant any media attention UNLESS the dealer has an affluent background or some other juicy hook. Go to any NYC arraignment court on any day and you'll see plenty of dealers that do not have affluent backgrounds.
