No, it's not light-hearted, it's being overly-sensitive, is what it is. Sure we all get upset, but when you have a public platform, you shouldn't abuse it to take out your frustrations on people.

I am going to vote 'not Bush' on my ballot, but... The problem is that it's not professional like a press release and it's not personal like an invitation. It's just spam. And this isn't light hearted??? "Bloggers are ho bags, so you must be a ho, and therefore, you'll write to us just based on our excessive exclamation pointing and namedropping of other blogs!"

I totally support the team wanting to get the word out, and Gothamist is a bunch of publicity-driving ho bags, but Matt Caldecutt is right - a personal touch is nice. It's the difference between getting spammed and getting a personal email. It does matter. I guess Jake and I were reeling from it more than usual - maybe because we expected more.

Why are you folks getting so uppity? You've amassed cultural clout, so why does it surprise you that someone would try to use you for it? Why not just be gracious and decline them in private, instead of taking them to task publicly and mocking them for being over-zealous and pushy? That's not cool, and more than a little mean-spirited and arrogant on your part, I think. Please don't become nasty or self-righteous. Gothamist is so good because it's light-hearted, IMHO. Leave the bitchiness to Gawker... PS. I am NOT friends with these people.

Come on, people. Let's not pile on the Concerts for Kerry folks: If self-promotion were against the law, every blogger in New York would be locked under the jail. Their pitch may have lacked finesse, but they--and John Kerry--are up against some pretty powerful foes. PS. In the interest of full disclosure, I am friends with members of the Concerts for Kerry team. They're not as annoying as their emails make them out to be.
