And we thought they would want us to vote for John Kerry. Gothamist is surprised they didn't just write, "Bloggers are ho bags, so you must be a ho, and therefore, you'll write to us just based on our excessive exclamation pointing and namedropping of other blogs!"
Updated:
just wanted to drop a line. we are a volunteers here and one of us got a little eager with the email and the exclamation points. we will make sure to take your cautionary comments to heart going forward.we do sincerely invite you to come to our brooklyn event if you are free.

Oh, kids at Concerts for Kerry...Gothamist is just a cranky curmudgeon, especially today, after waking up at 4AM and looking at our spam spam spam. We're sorry if we seemed harsh, because we are fond of that big alien, but sadly, these days, sometimes a soft sell with a personal touch helps matter. Good luck!

i believe this comes from the "any publicity is good publicity" school of media outreach. just for that, i'm voting for bush.
SOUNDS LIKE A CRAPPY SHOW ANYWHO...
and why don't they call it Koncerts for Kerry?
like the "Krusty Komedy Klassic".
Some people'll never learn. It's the personal touch that matters.
I wish I could retract the post I did for the knitting factory show they had a couple weeks back. I happened upon that event, I wasn't ambushed.
I think you should go to the show and while the concert is going on, get up on stage, grab a mike and start yelling "Visit gothamist.com! Visit gothamist! All the cool people do. Now we want you! Visit! Visit Right now!!! Please tell your friends! Vote Gothamist.com for the 2005 Bloggies!
What a bunch of dillweeds.
Come on, people. Let's not pile on the Concerts for Kerry folks: If self-promotion were against the law, every blogger in New York would be locked under the jail. Their pitch may have lacked finesse, but they--and John Kerry--are up against some pretty powerful foes.
PS. In the interest of full disclosure, I am friends with members of the Concerts for Kerry team. They're not as annoying as their emails make them out to be.
what's annoying is that gothamist seems peeved to be getting press releases. a little loftier-than-though wouldn't you say?
Why are you folks getting so uppity?
You've amassed cultural clout, so why does it surprise you that someone would try to use you for it?
Why not just be gracious and decline them in private, instead of taking them to task publicly and mocking them for being over-zealous and pushy? That's not cool, and more than a little mean-spirited and arrogant on your part, I think.
Please don't become nasty or self-righteous. Gothamist is so good because it's light-hearted, IMHO. Leave the bitchiness to Gawker...
PS. I am NOT friends with these people.
Wow, you guys are bitter, bitter people. Did anyone *force* you to post anything? These guys are spending their free time trying to defeat Bush-- and you complain about getting a freakin' e-mail?
Looks like you just created your own bad publicity! Congratulations, Gothamist! You've officially turned the situation against yourself!
I totally support the team wanting to get the word out, and Gothamist is a bunch of publicity-driving ho bags, but Matt Caldecutt is right - a personal touch is nice. It's the difference between getting spammed and getting a personal email. It does matter. I guess Jake and I were reeling from it more than usual - maybe because we expected more.
Well, it seems to have worked!!! They received quite a few column-inches.
I am going to vote 'not Bush' on my ballot, but...
The problem is that it's not professional like a press release and it's not personal like an invitation. It's just spam.
And this isn't light hearted???
"Bloggers are ho bags, so you must be a ho, and therefore, you'll write to us just based on our excessive exclamation pointing and namedropping of other blogs!"
No, it's not light-hearted, it's being overly-sensitive, is what it is.
Sure we all get upset, but when you have a public platform, you shouldn't abuse it to take out your frustrations on people.
