The Nostalgia Train

tien checked out one of the MTA's nostalgia train rides over the weekend. The Nostalgia Trains are a special Subway Centennial effort to educate New Yorkers about the way their transportation system used to run. Gothamist would like to petition for more fans, even for the trains where air-conditioning supposedly works, because that would help take the edge off some morning commutes when everyone is packed in like sardines.

callalillie also went on the train ride, as well as organizing a NYC cheesecake smackdown.

    I miss the graff

  • WHy recreate that? Half of it still happens today.

  • If they want to truly recreate the subway experience of yore, they should make sure to include the guys who groped your pre-teen ass when the train was so full you couldn't move. Or the delightful smell of burning rubber as the cars filled up with smoke from track fires. Or the inevitable guy in the last car smoking grass. Or the deafening thrill of riding between the cars just to get away from the ass-groping. And what about that steel-drum-playing alien who was collecting money to repair his space ship?
