Party Crasher Dies In Midtown West

Smoking at A60; Photo - NY Post

From the scary book of what people will do to get into a party: A 25 year-old man was found dead in a Midtown West apartment air shaft, after trying to sneak into a party Friday night. He had been kicked out a few parties at 336 West 37th Street, and apparently tried to re-enter through the air shaft and building fire escape - but lost his footing and fell many stories to his death. Newsday reports that the party was being held on a floor known as Loft Eleven. Gothamist knows of various party crashers who travel with various markers, stamps and stories in their bag to sweet talk their way into the party of the minute, but no party is worth risking your life by scaling building walls - unless it's some awesome goody bag.

  • This totally reminds me a recent episode of The OC where Marissa actually has a good idea: Wanting to get into the bar where Seth's aunt Hayley is stripping, Marissa goes to the door ahead of Ryan and begs the bouncer to let her in. When Ryan appears a couple minutes later, she pretends that he's a teen idol so the bouncer assumes that he's on the guest list. Ryan then takes Marissa inside as his adoring groupie, presumably to do it with her in the bathroom. Too bad for airshaft man that he didn't watch primetime drama instead of stupid crap like Mission Impossible II.

Heck, most parties aren't worth it even if you're on the invite list.

Yeah, about two months ago, accompanying the item on the guy who wrote the book about dating in urban centers, I think. That or a smoking anniversary.

  • I've seen this photo before, haven't I?

  • Is it me, or is this crying out for a Law and Order rewrite?

Was he going after his cellphone or something? Maybe he dropped it in the airshaft. That seems to be the trendy way to die young lately.

Suddenly I'm quite glad that I don't lose my healthy fear of heights when I'm out on the town.

  • wow- that's just like the studio 54 death in the 1970s- when the guy died trying to sneak into the club. people are total idiots- especially when they are high.
