Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness

There may be Alias, Sopranos, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent on tomorrow night, but Gothamist will be awaiting Prime Suspect 6, the sixth installment of modern British crime procedural starring the amazing Helen Mirren as gritty DCI Jane Tennison. We got hooked on them in 1991, when PBS aired the first installment. Prime Suspect is in the great tradition of female detectives: Miss Marple, J.B. Fletcher, Clarice Starling, but writer Lynda LaPlante does a fabulous job giving DCI Tennison a lot of realistic problems, with sexism in the workplace and modern race, sex, and class issues in the city of London. To laern more about the Prime Suspect movies, take a look at the ExxonMobil Masterpiece Theatre Prime Suspect site. The NY Post's Adam Buckman loved Prime Suspect 6.

You can buy the five earlier Prime Suspect movies on DVD from Amazon. Also check out the Prime Suspect-Helen Mirren Appreciation Society. Other great Helen Mirren films: The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, & Her Lover, The Madness of King George, and Gosford Park.

Wow, other Prime Suspect fans! I love this series, especially Prime Suspect 2.
BBC America has other British dramas and mysteries and they are superb!
