Brooklyn Museum's New Entrance

2004_04_brookmus.jpg

The Brooklyn Museum finally opens its new entrance this weekend after many years of the anticlimactic small doors for the beautiful building. The new glass entrance cost $63 million and includes a new lobby, an outdoor plaza, a boardwalk, and an elaborate "Vegas-style" fountain with jets of water that "dance." The entrance was designed by Polshek Parnership, whose Rose Center at the AMNH is a lovely glass jewel box. Newsday has a great look at the history of the museum as well as its new entrance.

Check out the full schedule of events this weekend - there are lots of great exhibits, like one of fashion designer Patrick Kelly's work. It looks like it'll be beautiful, so head to Prospect Park and mosey over the Museum later on and have dinner in the Slope or on Flatbush.
