Finally A Bride - Phil Mickelson Wins Major

Yesterday, on the final hole of the 68th Masters, Phil Mickelson won his first major, finishing with a 9-under 279. It took 43 attempts in his 12 years as a pro, but now Lefty, who has come close to winning several majors, no longer has to answer questions about losing majors. Mickelson's final putt was a 20 footer for a birdie and a one stroke victory over Ernie Els. The winning putt hung on the lip of the hole before falling in to the joy of Mickelson, his caddie, Bones Mckay, and the gallery. Even Gothamist was ecstatic for Phil and cheering wildly when his putt went in.

Related: If you're looking to play golf in New York City, you're in luck. The Daily News looks at the city's best driving ranges. They rate The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers as the best in the city, with the Brooklyn Golf Center getting an honorable mention.

If want to get in 18 holes on courses good enough to host a major, check out Bethpage State Park, a public course that hosted the 2002 U.S. Open on its "Black Course". Bethpage is slated to host 2009's U.S. Open as well.

What's truly freaky about that photo is that forest of pink forearms behind him.

i learned yesterday that golf is more exciting if you bet on it. $5, he makes this next shot.. YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! but not just on the last shot or on the winner.. like on every shot.

oh, betting also makes the antiques roadshow more exciting too.

the weird thing is that i enjoy watching both golf and watching the antiques road show, but betting just kicks it up a notch.

Rachelle: sounds like a bad start ending up with you living in Vegas, building bookie websites, and playing the ponies!

Bethpage Black (there are several courses of varying difficulty at BP) is a stunning public course. Anyone who plays regularly should try to play it at least once. It's never been in better condition and there's nothing like playing on a course before you see it on TV. "Hey, I was in that same spot and I hit it better than that guy!"

The other thing I recommend if you get the chance is to get practice round tickets for the US Open. Lots of people want to go for the actual competition, but having done both, I'll go for the practice rounds every time. Start out on 18 and walk the course backwards. You'll see everyone through the course of the day and unlike on the weekend, you can actually see more than one hole.

Tien ,
The Mets opened up at Shea today . Where is your coverage ? Or are the Yanks the only team in town ??? Be fair !!!

hey mets fan, plan on some mets coverage tomorrow. i have to pay the bills somehow and that requires some effort at work.

Designating Chelsea Piers as the best range in NYC is a dubious distinction. Understandably, most ranges in a cosmopolitan area can offer only so much.

At CP, the net stops your ball at 200 yards, a bucket starts at $20, you're likely going to have to wait for a "tee time" and you might be hitting from the 4th floor. Also, the teeing machine is nifty and convenient, but prone to jamming.

New Yorkers don't really have much of a choice w/respect to ranges, so we deal with it. The Brooklyn range sounds more like a real range (real grass), but it's not exactly time effective to travel from uptown to Brooklyn just to hit golf balls when you can get to Randall's Island in 15 minutes.
