The center of the center of the world is 100 years old today, and Gothamist wishes it a happy birthday, filled with memories of with celebrations, New Year's confetti, tourists, hookers and drug dealers, Broadway musicals, and screaming fans outside of TRL. Many you have many more.
More: Look at Times Square from the Earth Cam. Here's some very limited information about Times Square's 100th Anniversary from the Times Square Bid; apparently there will be activities, but there are no details. The Times Square website is interesting, but no other birthday details. The Times on Times Square's Duffy Square and the NY Times-Times Square name connection (it has something to do with the subway...). Also, the NY Times Times Square building is a city landmark.

What's at the center of Times Square? Well, maybe not quite, but is anyone acquainted with Max Neuhaus' sound installation at the triangular pedestrian island at the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue, between 45th and 46th Streets? I've tried to listen in, but alas - maybe the thing was taking a break and munching away at the Burger Joint, making all kinds of unusual sounds.
Is it back? How about a confirmed hearing?
