Frontrunner? I would love to hear exactly what your definition of frontrunner is. Your use of "" when calling the Albany Yankee fans "fans" is ridiculous. As usual, someone who doesn't like the Yankees is scratching and clawing for anything to rip on them about. Jealousy is an ugly emotion, and it doesn't translate well to print either. As far as Simmons' "rules" go, funny as they are, are meant for just that, to be funny. I wish that there were rules for being a good writer. The first rule would probably be to know what the hell you're talking about, but as usual that isn't the case in heavily opinionated "journalism" (see Bill can use quotes too, as well as speak in the third person, plus I'll try to throw in 37 web links later on as well). Just because someone has said that they've been a fan for only seven years or fifty years does not translate to whether or not they are a frontrunner. We all know what (well....the non-jealous "we") a front runner is, it's obvious that you don't even understand that (but I'm sure there's a website out there that can explain it to you). Instead of spouting off at the keyboard about frontrunners and your deep knowledge of what a "fan" is, try understanding what it means to be a fan how possibly someone has come to like the team they do, then maybe the Gothamist can stop wondering. http://www.gothamist.com/archives/2004/04/06/yankees_the_only_game_in_town.php

Those Mets vs Braves games from 1997 to 2000 were some of the best games I'd ever seen. Nothing tops the "grand single" in '99 though.

Even if the Mets suck [cringe], the rivalry between them and the Braves still lives. You'll never see the two teams play harder.

i mean, i did write:
"for the record, Gothamist thinks there are at least two rivalries in baseball"

so i guess we're all agreed, there is more than one rivalry in baseball.

I would think that the Giants/Dodgers and the Cardinals/Cubs rivalries are also fairly significant...
