Criminal justice system is sucking right about now: Judge calls mistrial in the Tyco case:

A judge declared a mistrial Friday in the trial of two former Tyco International executives accused of looting the company of $600 million, citing intense outside pressure placed on one of the jurors.
"It is certainly a shame that this has to be done at this time," state Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus told jurors after announcing his decision.

Shame? It's a lowdown, dirty shame! Okay, fine, maybe that's just what judges have to do. But six months of tax payer money for these money-grubbing rich people. Gothamist mad!

The WSJ is reporting that one of the jurors, Patrick Donovan (you can name them now), said the jury was about to give the judge their verdict(s) when the mistrial was declared around noon. He said the jury would prob have delivered a verdict by lunch at 1. But the judge granted the defense's motion before they could do that.

How's that for drama? Future L&O episode perhaps?

There was a Mistrial because one of the Jurors (Guess who) was Threatened. I swear i didnt do it

I don't like them either. If this were a trial of bad taste, they were convicted in the court of public opinion a long time ago. Maybe somebody on the jury didn't think the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that they had the requisite intent (just speculating), but if that's the case, at least our criminal justice system is working. Now, the prosecution gets a second opportunity, and I suspect they will get a conviction.

Um, isn't that how the criminal justice system is supposed to work? I guess I wouldn't say it sucks, I would say that's ensuring a fair trial.
