Fulton Fish Market
Liao Yusheng has a great gallery of the Fulton Fish Market. The Fish Market will be moving to Hunts Point, Bronx, in 2005, so seeing these pictures can be a substitute for those of you who don't want to wake up at 4AM to see real fishmongering in action. There's a great segment from Food TV show that has Gourmet editor and former Times food critic Ruth Reichl eating fish from all the sellers.

Aaaaargh. I went on Prof. Ken Jackson's (FORMER President of the NY Historical Society) midnight bike ride last fall for his history of New York class. One of the stops was the Fulton Street Fish Market. Good job, KJ, for allowing 5' tall college girls to wander around there alone at 4am. There is nothing like 5 minutes of being lost and surrounded by dockworkers screaming quite inappropriate comments at you as you frantically try to find your bike...
Heh! We should do a post later about antics from Professor Jackson's all night bike tour.
I just started going up the east side in Lopate's Waterfront. It is an enjoyable read. A few blatant factual errors, but enjoyable nonetheless.
That is one of the cutest panda pictures I've ever seen.
Oh, the two little tiny baby pandas are too much. I think I'm going to cry. Oh, but I can't stop looking at them!
