Damn you, TV upfront. Variety reported some TV casting news that seems to confirm that Adriana LaCerva will be killed off on the Sopranos. Why? Because Drea De Matteo landed a role on the Friends spin-off, "Joey," as Joey's high-strung sister, Gina! Our alternate hope is that David Chase's shooting schedule simply allows her to go to Hollywood to make a crappy sitcom. While it's safe to say she's the coolest thing to hit network TV in a while, Jesus, Gothamist doesn't know if that's career suicide in a punchline or a great way to make some Hollywood cash. Probably a little of both. At least she'll still have Filth Mart.
But speaking of Drea, her Prey for Rock & Roll co-star
Gina Gershon is going to be on network TV this fall, too. She plays the wild and sexy titular "Hot Mom" with a conservative daughter (imagine that!), and somehow, Nick Lachey will be in the show as well.

Leaving Sopranos?!! Uch... you have got to be kidding me!! And! I love that despite her whole look she was actually an UES princess girl to start.
Dammit. I'm so bummed. And my prediction was this was Meadow's last year {she'd get more of a storyline dead than alive}. Hmm...
i thought this was sopranos last season anyway?
UES princess girl?!? i don't know anyone on the UES that would dress like that or talk like that. well, unless you mean the UES imports.
given that i put a ton of energy into avoiding soprano spoilers, i think you just ruined my monday :(
This is the Sopranos the last season.
No, we are in the fifth season and there will be a sixth.
As for who will be killed off, I keep my options open every week and believe no rumors.
Now if you'll excuse me, I shall now return to my Sopranos cookbook.
No, the Sopranos will have a sixth season, which would probably start shooting in early 2005. HBO chairman-CEO Chris Albrecht said as much during the TV Critics' Tour last summer.
CNN's report of this story mentions that the tapings for Joey wouldn't interfere with her ability to appear in all 10 episodes of the Sopranos next season. I still think she's going to get whacked, though!
And I'm sorry if I'm upsetting Sopranos fans, but let me just say that this news of Drea joining Joey will be on Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight in no time, and you would have drawn the same conclusion. Adriana getting killed off has been a such of much debate since she started informing the FBI. Who knows, with the probability of Joey not making it to 13 episodes and David Chase's long writing process, Adriana LaCerva might be alive and kicking.
Thanks Brian!
Drea was raised on Queens, not an UES princess.

she is so not dying
I actually read an article where she talked about growing up on Fifth Ave. {10021 - Gold Coast: snore} and attending Spence Chapin. None of that sounds like Queens to me. Perhaps that's where she was born.
ooh ohhhh, i misread your comment ari. my bad. i thought you said she looked like she was from the UES.
From Paper:
When Drea was in second grade, they moved out of Queens and into Aretha Franklin's two-floor brownstone apartment next door to the Guggenheim. "She moved out, we moved in," Drea says. "But back then I didn't like it because it was scary and I was short and the ceilings were high and it was lonely. But it was Aretha Franklin's apartment. She had just put this crazy marble tub in there. And I used to swim laps in it."
I was on the red-eye back from las vegas this morning and Drea was on it...in regular class no less. She looked very similar to her tv appearance complete with black eyeliner. She looked hot but studiously avoided eye contact.
Jen!! That was exactly the article I read. You rock!
"Regular class"? Is that what everybody else on the planet calls "coach"? Just because she's a high-profile actress doesn't guarantee she's a prima donna. It just strongly implies it.
HBO has been advertising that this is the final season whenever they do 'scenes from the next episode' at the end of every show.
Dr. Melfi is also going to be in a new show as well. I just read an article this morning but I can't remember where I read it.
HBO and series creator David Chase have already reached an agreement for a sixth season, with that season's ten episodes to begin production in early 2005.
from the HBO website
I don't think that I would be able to watch the sopranos without Drea on the show. She brings so much character to the part and I think she is gorgeous!! I can't wait till Joey comes on the air. Good luck Drea!
