David Hirschman, Writer/Editor

davidhirschman_big.jpgThe Basics
Age and occupation. How long have you lived here, where did you come from, and where do you live now?
26, Writer/Editor. I grew up in Manhattan, and live in DUMBO now.

Three the Hard Way
1. In return for running Papotage, do you get bottomless cups of gallic coffee and your run of Florent after the owner leaves to hit the clubs and dance with bridge and tunnelers?
No, but I get to bridge and tunnel with the dancers while the bottomless Gallic owner gets clubbed.

2. I heard that Michael Stipe chose the band name for Concrete Blonde; he just liked the way the two words went together. Did he also name issue 10 of Papotage, "Ecru Lies"?
The original idea was "white lies," which became "off-white lies." But the point of Papotage is to be a bit creative and absurd, and provide people with topics that they can interpret as whatever they want, so we went one step further with "Ecru Lies." We don't really know what it means either.

3. You appear to run in both the media circles and the restaurateur circles. Which circle has more alcoholics?
Probably media, though "alcoholic" is such a vague term these days. Everyone I know is an "alcoholic" if a strict definition of the term is applied. That's part of the reason I've been looking into opening a bar.

Proust-Krucoff Questionnaire
Time travel question: What era, day or event in New York's history would you like to re-live?
Culturally, my favorite era in New York history is that Salinger-Capote-E.B.White-Kerouac-Warhol time in the late 50s and early 60s. One of my favorite movies is "The Apartment" with Jack Lemmon. I have a romantic idea of New York at that time, all filled with swanky mod parties, men in smart suits, martinis and people in technicolor.

What's your New York motto?
Live somewhere near the F train, but be careful not to pass out late at night on your way home. It’s a bitch to get back from Coney Island at 4 a.m.

Just after midnight on a Saturday, what are you doing?
Shooting sly, knowing glances at uninterested women in expensive shoes.

What's the most expensive thing in your wardrobe?
Ties. I buy a lot of ties, even though I never wear them. I can't afford to buy a suit or even good dress shirts, but I have a ton of really nice ties.

Where do you summer?
Zum Schneider and the Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Who do you consider to be the greatest New Yorker of all-time?
Darryl Strawberry

What happened the last time you went to L.A.?
I spent the whole time in a car fiddling with the air conditioning and the radio. It sucked. I fucking hate L.A.

Of all the movies made about (or highly associated with) New York, what role would you have liked to be cast in?
Joe Buck in Midnight Cowboy.

The End of The World is finally happening. Be it the Rapture, War of Armageddon, reversal of the Sun's magnetic field, or the Red Sox win the World Series. What are you going to do with your last 24 hours in NYC?
Hookers and blow.

He looks chubby.

user-pic

you are right, he does look a little chubby

He is sweet, but a bit young for me. All I know is he took a bunch of my poems, and for that I would like to chat with him over strong coffee, and eat a pastry with him and make a little design on the table with the buttery, flakey crumbs. I don't think he looks all that chubby.
