Elephants Everywhere!

Elephants Everywhere!

Gothamist was there when the elephants from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey finally arrived, at 12:35am on a snowy Wednesday morning. The scene was wild- music, cheering, clapping, screaming. The elephants, however, seemed calm and healthy. More pictures at Bluejake.

Do you have any idea when the elephant walk is tihs year? Any chance you can publicize it several days ahead of time, rather than just the day of ?

    Thanks.

  • At least they managed to avoid exploding manhole covers or electrified grates...

  • Kojak

Yes! We must Free our Animal Friends. Encourage them to fight off their oppressors and flee into the jungles of . . . New Jersey?

    Im an Ele-friend!

Circuses are NO FUN for animals.

they are ugly displays of human selfishness.

  • The circus trains are not electric, so they can't go through Penn. They go over the Hell Gate bridge from the Bronx.

  • Kojak

Poor Animals. So I guess they Hop on the train in Long Island City. Where do they stay while they're in the city? Does MSG have a Barn or a Zoo?

  • jenny

kojak -- the elephant trains are too high -- don't have clearance in the railroad tunnels -- so they walk them in every year.

  • Not to throw too much cold water on your enthusiasm, but according to the ASPCA, RBB&B have a history of abusing their elephants:

Circus beats and mistreats elephants; feds turn blind eye. (Sep. 2003)

  • Kojak

Its weird. They have their own Trains that run on the LIRR Lines. since Penn is right Under the Garden. Easy Access!

  • How do they get the other animals there? Trucks?

  • Jen

    Hooray!

  • Poor elephants, tromping around in the snow. Do you think that they were cold? Or does their massive size and tough skin rule that out?
