At 11PM, the elephants in Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus will be walking through the Midtown Tunnel to Madison Square Garden. Now, we know that elephants are sturdy creatures, but how are they going to fare in the snow? Surely this isn't the first year elephants have needed to traipse through snow to get to Madison Square Garden, but this is the first time Gothamist is thinking about it. Luckily, it seems like they will be okay, as long as they are dried off inside. Director Michel Gondry incoporated the elephant walk into Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (picture above); see it in the trailers. Henry Mancini composed a little ditty, "Baby Elephant Walk," for The Pink Panther.

I hate to be pedantic, but Mancini wrote Baby Elephant Walk for the John Wayne film Hatari! Not the Pink Panther. For that, he wrote The Pink Panther.

The elephants should be fine, and hopefully the snow will keep the gibbering PETA morons inside -- they've been an unwelcome regular feature during the walk for the last few years.
Who are the "gibbering...morons"? People trying to reduce cruelty and suffering in the world? Or people who think that watching poorly-treated animals forced to do unnatural tricks is good fun?
There are so many other entertainment options in NY...there's just no need to give such unquestioning support to a sketch outfit like Ringling.
we were there; those elephants are always late......it was cold, it was wierd, it was midtown ok; some dude has hiw Babar puppet screaming; dance musick that was soooooo '80s & then. . .some people were a little worried "are those pachy-derms too cold? Is this the climate they should be in??? then the neurosis: maybe we are too close to the street??? Maybe they will take the elephants on another street???? how can we know??? ""
When I casually mentioned weell the peeps in clown costume WORK for the ringlins bros and have their truck and are giving free tickets to the show and the news cams are here---you'll get your elephants finally a little lady leans into my teenage son and says I haven't missed this for 35 years!!!
