Mayoral Approval At A Blistering 40%

2004_03_mayorbkids.jpg

The Mayor's approval has improved to 40% according to a poll conducted by the Daily News (disapproval is at 41%). The pollster who conducted the poll said, "He's really made a pretty nice comeback. It's fascinating. He doesn't have a group that's solidly behind him, and he doesn't have a group that's solidly opposed to him. Every group is split." You know what's fascinating? That 40% approval rating is a big deal for Mayor Bloomberg.

Quinnipiac already noted the Mayor was at break-even approval in February.

Dunrt ya meen the anel for ducational olicies? I tink I should been held back.....

  • The Panel for ducational Policy meeting last night is a perfect example of why Bloomberg has a low approval rating, with due reason.

I like Bloomie... sure he's a little standoffish, but so far I've agreed with his position on the majority of issues and think his choices are benefiting the city. I think if he were able to explain his strategy and the issues at hand a little better (as Jen was saying) he'd come off as more competent in the eyes of the general public.

Yep. He's not exactly the master politician. He probably can't explain his policies because doesnt know what most of them are in depth. He relies on his Aides more then any leader should. (Sounds a little like a Bush to me)

He's what the city needed to get the budget under control and I believe that is his greatest strength; Handling the $$$. I only lost confidence in him when he hinted at closing bars and clubs early. Those are my Lifelines! How Could he even think such things?

He's out of Touch with the Beat of the City and needs Das Boot

I think Mayor Bloomberg's problems stem may be caused in part because of class issues and because he has this "I'm getting it done and that's it" no-nonsense business attitude. I'm usually more upset that he's so inept at explaining his policies than at the policies themselves.

  • Seriously, who do so many people not like this guy? He banned smoking in bars. So what? New York state made the same law, so even if Bloomberg didn't act, NYC would have been smoke-free in bars a couple months later.

Bloomberg led this city through what could have been a devastating financial shortfall.

I think that people don't like him just because he's rich.

  • I don't think so. I think people don't particularly like HIM. I mean, he's very closed about things. But that doesn't make him a bad mayor. He's no Guiliani when it comes to love/hate. Maybe it's our current political climate? I'm so depressed by the state of national and international politics that my local passions have fallen slightly to the wayside...

  • Kojak

He's not a bad Mayor, yet he's not too good of a Mayor either. No one loves him, but no one hates him... Does anyone here clearly Love or Hate the Guy? Even I'm confused.
