What People Will Do For Their Pets

Soft Claws

Seeing this post on Engadget about "Soft Claws," basically press-on nails for your cat (they "come in five colors and are supposed to keep your furniture from being scratched up while also making your pet more attractive to other cats"), simultaneously delighted and intrigued us. What lengths will pet owners go to give their pets a taste of the human life? We see animals in raincoats or in baby papooses on their owners' chests... as well as cats in leopard print hammocks. Then there are those people who turned their house into their cats' house, putting scratching posts and elevated catwalks all over (start the slideshow)...should we expect spas to offer services for our cats or dogs while we our spa stuff done? Sit in a pedicure chair, next to you kitty or puppy getting a peticure!

there's a pet spa in the west village - callalillie took a picture of it a few weeks ago. they can even get facials.

These have been around for years - I tried them on my cat, and she went ballistic (I went with the clear soft paws). Never again. I figure the chair is worth sacrificing in order to maintain her sanity (and mine).

This is not the end of the world, but you can see it from here.

Okay, heckle me if you will, but it does make sense on one hand. If you did want to use the soft claws - I never have since my siamese is really good about only scratching on the post - I always wondered how you would see the clear covers all over the floor when they 'naturally' fell off. If they were colored at least they would be more visible to sweep up.

yeah, i got one of those 'clear' one stuck between my teeth last night right before going to bed. unfortunately, i'm lazy & afraid of the dark otherwise i probably would have gotten up and brushed to get rid of it.
it was gone in the morning. i couldn't let if i swallowed it by morning or if it just dissolves in water? i'm gonna spray down the apartment with a small hose in a couple of weeks and see if it gets rid of the rest of them.
my easy chair is still thrashed though...

People's passion for pampering their pets never ceases to amaze me. Doggie jewelry is one of my favorites.

I mean what self-respecting Komondor wouldn't want a string of fresh water pearls?

Hey, it's a better option than declawing.

The very reason these were invented was to be a more humane way to stop cats from destroying your furniture than cutting off the first knuckle of each digit ("declawing")...and is an alternative to the schnips which don't always work out so well.

Nothing to do with "pampering". Check out a breeder's contract and you'll see why it's important for some folks to look into these, and yes they've been around for years.

But the soft claws don't have to be colored! The fact that they're colored made me think "peticure."

I can't wait to order a set for my cat. Declawing is inhumane. If you think it's a pedicure, well my cat is worth it. He calms my nerves at the end of a busy day and helped me move on after the loss of my precious Libby who died suddenly. If it makes him more desireable to other cats, well good for him. I don't have room for a scratching post that he probably wouldn't use anyway.

Touche' to the inventor!
