Sorry, I wasn't trying to sound like I was bragging. The "(and I should know)" was really a joke about Bruce Davidson can go for hours about his photos. Laura Holder's photos so could be the next "Subway" series. No one thought that Bruce Davidson's work would take off like it did. This was something that no one had tried.

Are you kidding me! "Gothamist thinks this is what will happen with Laura Holder's photographs in 20 years." Are you kidding - please say you're joking. Davidson works so hard to get those shots. Comparing Laura Holder to him is RIDICULOUS. No offense to Laura -keep working. Maybe the point you were trying to make was that if Laura Holder kept taking photos for 20 years straight one of her shots might resemble Davidson's.

i think what matt meant was that he spoke to davidson about it directly when he worked on the show. of course, 20 years later, it's pretty hard to know what was going on in that picture.

I have been inspired by Laura Holder. But I am always afraid that someone might attack me when I take their picture.

Bruce Davidson said it's real. According to him (and I should know), that's an actual undercover cop with his gun to the head of a suspected robber. Bruce had gone along with the police after he had been mugged in the subway.

The article is interesting and I like Bure Davidson's work, but a few of the shots in his Subway series seem staged. Specifically, the one that you can see when you click on my name above. It's the one with someone pointing a gun at another rider's head (NYC6004 / DAB1980012 K040). No doubt there was crime back-in-the-day, but that photo--and a few others--look too staged to be believed.

aside from the story itself, i find it striking to look at the buildings in the background and see how little they have changed.
