I always know it’s nearly Christmas time because I go to the Good Food Show in Birmingham. This year I did 12 live shows in front of about 20,000 people which were really good fun, and it was great to see a record amount of men in the audience getting involved!

HY...HI!!! Just forgot to mention, waiting time has not increased in 14 years(1990)!! We still get a meager $12 an hr. Las vegas is $22 an hr. There is no adjustable fuel surcharge. At present las vegas has a $.20 a trip surcharge which is adjustable from time to time up or down. With gas going up the way it is..(by the summer $2.25 for regular), the raise will be obsolete without a surcharge!!!

HY...HI!!! Several things are wrong with the increase!! 1. never heard of a night differential taken away. New propsal has no surchage for night drivers after 8pm!! Bus drivers have a night differential!! Black cars (radio car service) charge for additional stops. Cabs don't!! Not fair!! Especially when busy or in rush hours, we lose a "drop" on the meter, $2.00 or $2.50 at night when an extra stop is made. Credit cards will delay payment at destination and increase chances of tickets for blocking traffic. Lease increases from $112 for night shift to $129, is that a small increase? lol have a good day...HY

More on maximum lease rates (PDF) the fleets/medallion owners would be allowed to charge. As a driver, the proposed lease rate increases seem to be fair. But I am opposed to the actual taxi fare increase on other grounds. The TLC's public hearing, scheduled for March 30, 9:30am at 40 Rector Street is likely to be a cozy rubber-stamp formality, but I plan to be there to voice my opinion nevertheless.

So i don't know who is spinning - the fleet owners or the drivers. I googled for more on this but didn't find anything. I support paying cabdrivers more, because they are providing a service. We're all riding the subway after the 33% increase because it's a great option.

how much as the cost of gas gone up since the last increase? insurance? tlc tickets??? sure, there are some arrogant pricks in the field who couldn't find times square if their life depended on it, but most of these guys are hard-working people trying to make a buck.

You should get what you pay for. If a retail outlet pays their salespeople $20 an hour, it should attract better workers than a company that'll only pay their workers $8/hr. Hopefully there'll eventually be a 26% increase in the quality of taxi driver applicants.

Are they also 26% more likely to take a thru street when I am going across town, or will they still insist on go up a side street with construction, parking on both sides and someone in front of the traffic line going 5mph looking for a parking spot.

Will they also be 26% more likly to take me to Greenpoint on a Friday night? I think anyone who lives in Brooklyn can tell many stories about dealing with cabbies who will yell at you to get out after telling you where you are going. Good thing a call to 212-NYC-TAXI does the trick. Oh, wait.

Will the cab drives be 26% more competent and 26% better insured? Will traffic in NYC be 26% more efficient? I once had a cab driver jump out of the car in the middle of an intersection to beat up a cyclist . I have been threatened twice when questioning a fare,... once a threat of rape, once with a cro-bar.
