Jen--you have it all wrong in your analysis of "All About Eve". Its wrong to characterize the relationship between Eve and Margo as "Margo was crazy...but in the end Eve was just nuttier..." "All About Eve" should not be in the list of stories of crazy female bosses and their suffering underlings for the following reasons:

1. Margo was not a crazy boss--Margo was an aging, eccentric theater actress. She allowed Eve into her life only to have Eve attempt to take everything from her--her man and her job; and

2. Eve was not a "suffering underling"--Eve was a manipulative, scheming, parasite that basically stalked Margo until she got into Margo's world then she went "single white female" on Margo.

Jen, rent the dvd again, it is a fabulous film and trust me, I am sure that you will never characterize the Margo/Eve relationship as you previously did.

Cheers.

Yeah... I'm with the other sam. 'All About Eve' doesn't belong in that category at all.

I think emjaybee's stories are interesting and disturbing. I wonder if these women confide in their admins because they have no real close girlfriends?

Well, Margo Channing was very domineering and nutty...it's just that Eve was nuttier in the end.

FYI--All About Eve does not belong in the category of films you describe. All About Eve's female "boss" does not persecute her "underling"...in fact, the "underling", Eve, attempts to take over her boss' (Margo Channing's) life...

Definitely true. I've worked as an admin assistant for too many of these women. Although some of them abuse prescription drugs instead of booze.

For some reason, all the crazy lady bosses I've worked for have also worn too much makeup, too tight/bright clothes, had multiple failed marriages, and constantly wanted to tell me all about their embarrassing physical problems, from their fungusy feet to their trouble with their lady parts. In comparison, a jerky sexist male boss was almost a relief.

No wonder I got out of the administrative assistant business permanently. There just isn't enough money in the world.
