Are You Ready For Your Close-Up. Mr. Mayor?

2004_03_mayorbtv.jpg

Reader Rob Byrnes tips us to the news that Mayor Bloomberg will be appearing in an upcoming episode of Law & Order. 1010 wins says, "Bloomberg, known more for his sometimes stilted syntax [hee hee] than for any acting chops, will be seen discussing the murder of an assistant district attorney" during two press conferences. Dead ADA? Is this the end of Serena Southerlyn? While we wouldn't put it past Dick Wolf to kill off another ADA, this could be a stunt to kill off a never-before-seen ADA. Also, Rob mentions something about "dead smokers." Hmm. It'll probably air in a month or so. The Mayor will be donating his $678 to a fund for families of dead police officers and firefighters.

Rudy Giuliani appeared as himself in an episode during season 11, as a friend of interim Executive District Attorney Nora Lewin.

Yee-haa! Mayor Mike on TV! Shweet. It had to be done.

Is it just me, or does he bear a strong resemblance to the Grinch in that picture?

killing off serena?! no....say it ain't so!!!

oh my god, no! i love serena, ever since i started watching repeats of angel, season 3, where she plays a cop.

Killing off Serena? Not the Law-bot! Couldn't they could just update her syntax chip instead?

Yeah... Bloomy would blend in far better on any Dr Suess set than on L&O.

I mean, c'mon...

Not to be a HUGE L&O geek, but I think that Dick Wolf is probably going to revisit the episode/case where Alex was killed, so she could spend more time following around her boyfriend Bobby Flay.

Cail! Damned good call! I completely agree.

Thanks Ari...I was worried my first Gothamist comment would be met with a chorus of "Yeah, whatever you A&E-watching geek"!

Cali -- I guess this makes me an even bigger L&O geek, but Alex wasn't killed; she was put in the witness protection program, which was revealed at the end of the show. That said, you may be on to something.

Are you serious? I wandered out of the room at the end of the episode to get a snack, figuring I'd miss nothing other than the "Da-DUNG" (trademarked L&O sound). You mean that Alex is alive?? Wow. I need to reevaluate some things now...

I'm all for killing Serena. She was only good in the episode when she did the Internet search of what Jack McCoy likes and a more recent episode where she's all flirty with an undercover gov't agent with the mob.

I was thinking how, for me, the most interesting ADA has been Carey Lowell's Jamie Ross. She had a kid, she was divorced, she was a little older, she had really firm opinions. My second favorite ADA is Abby Carmichael (Angie Harmon) who was so rigid and tough that she made Jack seem like a pushover.

I like Abby, because she has that raspy voice that I always wanted when I was younger, and sometimes still do.

As for Jamie, she was a personal favorite. Especially because she came back a couple of times as the defense lawyer. GOOD conflict. Do you remember the episode when she called out Jill Hennessy on sleeping with Jack? Good stuff.

Cail (sorry for misspelling yesterday):

Yup. Last scene, Hargitay and Meloni's characters were taken to a remote spot, where Alex apologized for making them think she was dead. She said next week she'd be appearing on Guiding Light as a resurrected Reva, too. (Okay, I'm kidding on that last part.) But yeah, she's alive, just in hiding. (Never underestimate the twist, baby!)
