Pandas Invade D.C. While New York is Appled!

2004_02_bigapple.jpg

Gothamist loves New York, but hearing that we're getting apples, in the tradition of the Cow Parade, for public art, while D.C. is getting PANDAS...well, Gothamist concedes this showdown to our nation's capital, goddamnit. The Pandas, aka PandaMania or PandaPalooza, will be on display from May through September, while the Apples will be on display from August through October.

The Washington Post has more details on pandas. Check out Cow Parade NY and D.C.'s old art public art project, Party Animals.

Thanks Matt, Heidi, Lukas, and our man in D.C., Hilton, for sending us links.

  • I think my favourite is the far-left one, who has this kind of perplexed look. I'm not sure what perplexes a panda:

"Shoots? Leaves? Hmm. I'm always eating shoots... I wonder if the leaves are fresh here. Oh, I'll just stick with shoots."

  • Awesome. I'm typically opposed to everything D.C. But the pandas sound fantastic. I tip my hat to The District on that one.

You want pandas? Go to Grand Central Station now (Tuesday morning), and you'll see people dressed up as pandas.
