Grange Hall Closes Tonight

The NYC restaurant closings continue: NYC brunch and gathering institution, Grange Hall, is closing tonight. whatisee tipped Gothamist after its visit last night. Grange Hall, like many restaurants, is the victim of escalating rents. What's telling is that a neighboorhod restaurant as successful as Grange Hall would have to close - rents must be crazy. Gothamist will miss going to Commerce Street, waiting amongst all the others who want a hearty meal with friends.

grange hall was on sex and the city last night - as the restaurant in paris where carrie's fans were throwing her a party. even though it was supposed to be a little bistro in paris, seeing grange hall on the final episode of SATC at all was a nice homage to a beloved west village spot.

The new owners of Grange Hall should be ashamed if they steal the name and identity. Chumley's is taking over the spot, bastards.

It's the end of an era. I'll mass the brussel sprouts with leeks and thyme. I spent my formative years drinking and dining there. My best pal Stephanie drank there so much she was given a pin that said #1 customer... (which was touching and scary at the same time)
A sad day indeed.

Grunge is so over. It's about time that place closed.

Dammit - I just went there for the first time a week ago and loved it -- excellent turkey club.

just my luck.

It's sad Grange Hall is closing, but ultimately this proves how great it is that "Sex and the City" is finally off the air.

1) "Sex and the City" choses good place to shoot on location.
2) Fans of the show and others flock to said place in droves.
3) Those same people then scope out places to live in the neighborhood.
4) Rents go up across the board due to demand.
5) The place initially hyped is forced out of business due to the rent hike caused by the popularity caused by being featured in "Sex and the City".

At least with "Sex and the City" gone this self-destructive trendoid cycle can finally end.

It broke my heart when I heard the Grange was closing. The first time I ever went there was in 1997 on a trip to NY a few months prior to moving there. Since it was within a healthy 20 minute walk from my apt in Chelsea, I made regular Sunday Brunch trips for breakfast and cocktails. They made a damn fine pot o'joe, there, too.

I think I took every visitor from around the globe there and spent many a birthday there, too.
Kudos to SATC for using it...but that's never the reason most New Yorkers found it. GOODBYE GRANGE, you will be heartily missed.

My fiance and I live in London, and went to Grange Hall on our first trip to New York in 1999. We completely loved it. We're going back to New York on honeymoon in October and wanted to return there for a romantic and sentimental meal (and a few wicked cocktails!!) So sad to hear it's closed. We were really looking forward to going back there and making it part of our honeymoon. Big up for Grange Hall. RIP.
